Member Milestone: Meet Talon Richardson

We’re excited to launch our “Member Milestone” series, rewarding the commitment of so many Wel at Humana members. First up, Talon Richardson. Talon’s been a member for 2.5 years. Learn more about his health a fitness journey below.

Q: What is your favorite feature of Wel at Humana?

A: The included group exercise classes.

Q: What is your favorite workout or exercise?

A: Deadlift, hands-down.

Q: What inspired you to start your fitness journey at Wel at Humana?

A: After graduating high school, I no longer played sports and moved out on my own. I didn’t eat right and didn’t get nearly any exercise in anymore; I lost weight down to 108 pounds at 5’8″. After some health issues, I realized I needed to get back into some kind of competition to motivate myself, so I found powerlifting and that has propelled me to become the healthiest and happiest I’ve ever been.

Q: Do you have any fitness goals that you working towards currently, that you would be willing to share with us?

A: A 500-pound deadlift and 315-pound squat is the dream : )

Q: What’s your biggest health or wellness achievement so far?

A: Coming from being severely underweight, I’m now 145 pounds and 11% BF after being 108 and 6% at my lowest. A healthy weight gain has done tremendous things for my mental health… And ranking 4th nationally in my weight class for deadlift.

Q: How do you stay motivated, especially on challenging days?

A: Now that I’m miles from where I started, I realize I not only look better and am stronger, I have more energy I think clearer I’m just generally in a better mood. Being strong and healthy is a beautiful thing and a worthwhile endeavor for everyone at any point in your life, but the mental improvements that investing in my body gave me are unmatched.

Q: How has being apart of Wel at Humana impacted your journey?

A: It’s been essential. First being here at work means I can’t skip out (heck its right downstairs ha-ha), but the relationships I’ve made with all the wonderful people here have kept me accountable. Every single person has a smile on their face willing to give advice, help spot, or even just give an “enjoy your workout.” I could not ask for a better experience at this gym.
